Evolve Lacrosse

Evolve Lacrosse was founded by Scott Coccaro with a mission to develop complete athletes who excel on and off the lacrosse field. Scott's passion for coaching and love for the game have grown into a program dedicated to helping players reach their full potential through intentional training and high standards.

At Evolve, our training philosophy is built around the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA). While the name may sound complex, the concept is straightforward: players develop most effectively when they are challenged to solve problems and discover solutions in realistic, game-like situations rather than relying on constant instruction and repetitive drills.

The CLA combines three key elements:

  1. Intentionality — Clearly defining what skill, concept, or decision-making ability we want players to develop.

  2. Constraints — Adjusting factors such as the task, environment, or player roles to create learning opportunities.

  3. Variability — Exposing players to different situations, because no two moments in a lacrosse game are ever exactly the same.

Traditionally, coaching often follows a familiar pattern: the coach explains a skill, demonstrates it, players perform drills, the coach corrects mistakes, and the cycle repeats. While this approach can have value, it often places players in a passive learning role.

The CLA shifts the coach's role from instructor to learning designer. Instead of providing all the answers, coaches create game-like environments with purposeful constraints that encourage exploration, decision-making, and adaptation. Players learn not only what to do, but when and why to do it—developing skills that transfer more effectively to actual competition.

About Scott

Scott grew up on Long Island, New York, where he began playing lacrosse, football, and wrestling at a young age. He went on to compete at the collegiate level in both football and wrestling, while staying connected to lacrosse whenever possible.

In June 2013, Scott relocated with his family to Park City, Utah. When his son became involved with the Park City Youth Lacrosse Organization (PCYLO), Scott’s passion for the sport was reignited, leading him to begin coaching. Over more than a decade with PCYLO, he not only coached but also served in leadership roles across the organization, including serving as President. Scott recently finished coaching at Highland High School as a varsity assistant, and this summer, he'll rejoin the Park City Youth Lacrosse Organization as a board member and the Boys Director of Player and Coach Development.

Outside of lacrosse, Scott leads a high-performance professional services team that combines technical and business expertise to help clients reach their business objectives. Scott and his wife have two wonderful kids and two wonderful dogs.
